The Crescent Inn — Clifton Hill - Brighton

At the junction of Powis road and Clifton hill the crescent provides a welcome respite from the walk to seven dials. Step inside and you are greeted by a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. I must confess that the crescent was one of my favourite pubs, I say was because a little while ago they decided to put the price of a pint of kronenbourg up to a whopping £3.20!

Many of us voted with our (lager soaked) currency and decided to go to pubs under the psychological £3/pint barrier, I’m sure in time other pubs will be charging this amount for a pint, I just don’t feel like paying that now.

Still, there is a lot to recommend this bar if you’ve not given it a try yet. Not having been in the crescent for a few months, I decided that it would be remiss of me to write an article based on my memories of the place – So on a warm Thursday afternoon I ventured in to the crescent. It was very quiet when I arrived but this was around half-three, only hardened drinkers (or pub reviewers) would be in the pub at this time of day!

The interior is a cornucopia of red velour and wood panelling but is clean and comfortable. I was served immediately, the requested pint arriving in seconds, chilled and filled to the brim – Just how I like it! I don’t know if I mentioned it previously but the pint cost me the sum of £3.20! But what the hey, it’s a tough job but this intrepid reporter is more than up to the task.

Music played unobtrusively; a mish-mash of everything from the 60’s onwards – I’ve been in this pub it’s been extremely lively and very quiet (as today) and it does have a nice ‘vibe’ to it.

The toilets were clean and there everything was present and correct, even those funny tasting ‘ice cubes’ in the urinals :-)

The Crescent also has an patio garden out-back, if alfresco drinking is your bag. This is another ‘family friendly’ pub; so be warned – there may be childs in the daytime.

The ubiquitous free WiFi access (not provided by loseconnection) was all present and correct and they also have a PC towards the rear of the pub for punters to use.

The crescent is a nice enough kind of place, with a good mixture of punters (I don’t recall seeing any aggro in there ever) it’s just a touch pricey! But if you are in the area, give it a go.

[...] Beer They serve Kronenbourg here, Unlike the Hampton, although it is a little on the pricey side at £3.10/pint. OK, it’s not as expensive as the Crescent, but its not far off! They also sell Krony Blanc (which is even more expensive) but alas, not the fantastic Kronenbourg Brun! I’ve been converted ever since drinking ‘Brun’ in France, I’m running a campaign to get the brown stuff here in Blighty. [...]
