The Hampton — Upper North Street - Brighton
Located on Montpelier terrace Upper North Street, which is just far enough away from the main ‘day-tripper’ areas, to ensure a nice regular clientèle. The Hampton has a nice atmosphere and has a happy hour Sunday to Thursday; Red stripe being served at a reasonable (relatively speaking) £2.05 from 6pm ’til 8pm.
Personally I’m not a fan of the Jamaican lager as I find it a little lacklustre in the flavour department so I opt for a Becks instead. The staff are friendly and service is speedy.
The interior of the Hampton is not massive and a bit of a mixed bag style-wise, but very pleasant nonetheless; with wooden tables & chairs and vinyl upholstered bench seats. There is also a patio to the rear of the pub and on a sunny day is a very nice place to be with a cold beer to hand.
The toilets are clean (again this is a relative thing, as I’m a little fussy) and the hand-dryer is plenty powerful, but there was a distinct lack of soap on several of my visits.
The Hampton also has free WIFI for those of us toting WIFI enabled kit, this enables me to get work done from the comfort of the pub! (No I’m not writing this in the pub!)
The pub is family friendly which some may view as a good thing, others, including myself, want to be as far away as possible from screaming kids and their dopey doting parents. That said, I’ve yet to experience this sort of thing in the Hampton.
Proper cooked food is available and has been to a good standard whenever I’ve eaten there, helpings being plentiful and tasty. Although the Sunday roast is a little on the pricey side, at £7.95. The Hampton has recently had a bit of a coup d’eta, the new management seem to be keeping up the standards, although I would like to see some other beers on happy hour!
