The Regency Tavern - Russell Square - Brighton

The Regency Tavern

This is one of the campest pubs in Brighton (and that’s saying something!) Tucked away down a little passage (oooeer missus) that runs betwixt Russell square. and Regency square, this pub is not on the well walked path of many-a-day-tripper. The Regency can get busy on a Friday night, you’ll find a good mix of people there too. It’s also a nice escape from the hell of Saturday afternoon shopping, especially if the other-half has dragged you in to the hell hole known as Churchill Square!

The Regency (from Regency Sq)

So you get good company, and O.T.T décor*, is the beer any good? Oh yes! I strolled up to the bar and ordered two beers – not only was the service friendly and fast; the barman also chilled the glasses before pouring two almost perfect pints. I say ‘almost’ because as we all know, only a free pint is perfect :-) There was large range of beers; Asahi, Hurlimans, Oranjeboom and real ales like Bishops finger.

*see the picture below - this is the gents!

The Regency Tavern Toilets

The interior is fitted-out in the style known as; ‘over the top plush fabulous’ but it is comfortable and the toilets were immaculate on my visits (to the pub, not the toilet).
Prices were fairly typical for Brighton hostelry e.g. £3/pint.

I don’t know how a beer got to be this price; I remember saying that I’d give up beer when it got to £2/pint, so much for that idea!Roasts are served on a Sunday (not tried one yet so can’t tell you too much about these)

This is one place worth visiting – Especially if someone in your cadre is celebrating their birthday; just inform the staff of this fact and let the celebrations begin!

Update (26/03/07)

I had a fantastic Sunday lunch in here - Service was excellent, portions were very generous, the food was tasty and the price wasn’t too bad at £8.95.
