Caroline of Brunswick - Ditchling Road, Brighton

Leek & Winkle

Serendipity is a funny thing, she has a habit of bringing things to you just when required. This review is the progeny of miss serendipity. Whilst sampling the “delightful” environs of the Hobgoblin we (me and my pub review co-conspirator), met a friend who happened to be doing a little bit of bar work at the Leek & Winkle (now the Caroline of Brunswick).

Updated 05/09/06 — Had a curry in here on Sunday. Vindaloo was spot-on, as was the beer & music. Forgot to mention; FREE WiFi here too!

So after finishing our (very bad) beers we decided to take the short walk to the L&W. A short walk down Ditchling road is rewarded with a pub that is as diametrically opposed to the ‘Hob’ as is possible to be, at least in this dimension.

The Beer
We opted for a couple of pints of san miguel, these were served promptly, tasted great and were ice-cold! I had a pleasant chat with the new owners and they seemed to be the kind of people that ought to be landlords.Taking a seat was a pleasure, they were comfy and abundant. The décor is nice, without being over-the-top and the toilets were immaculate!

Inside The Leek & Winkle

One of the nicest features of this pub is curry; the clever thing being that there is a curry house next door. Grab a takeaway and bring it in, and you’ll be given plates, cutlery and condiments! That’s what I call civilised!

Prices were reasonable and I was informed that Old Rosie will be on draught very soon, at the princely sum of £2.90/pint.

The Leek & Winkle gets a Pubscene quad thumbs-up! Give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
