The Shakespeare’s Head - New England Road - Hove

Shakespeare's Head

Best sausages Baird none!
Do you like sausage and mash? Yes? This may be the pub for you, if that hunger monster has struck. You’ll find this pub on New England Road (just before you get to seven dials) and it’s provided a welcome respite from the slog of walking up this road. Of course if you’re walking down the hill you have no excuse, so plan your route carefully :-)

The Shakespeare’s Head is a pleasant enough sort of pub, well appointed but not over the top. Service was quick and polite whenever I’ve visited, even at the busiest of times.Cost per-pint (of export lager) is bang on the Brighton median - The beer is also well kept and frosty-cold. But the real talking point of this boozer it the legendary bangers & mash.

There is a huge menu on the wall, listing all sorts of fabulous sausage/mash combos — Vegetarian? No probs! They cater for you with a range of veggie and vegan meals! I tried the veggie option, and can say that is was probably the best veggie saus&mash I’ve tasted! All the ingredients are sourced locally too.

On another one of my inspections we happened to be sitting when a family came through the door - Our thoughts were; “drink up - parents with young kids are coming in!” But they were sent packing, very politely, as the Shakespeare’s Head does not allow children! So that’s another plus-point.

Haven’t checked for WiFi - wasn’t advertised when I last went there though.

This place is well worth a visit — It does get very busy on Friday nights (and Sunday lunchtimes) but if you avoid the peak times (or don’t mind crowds) then you’ll be rewarded by great atmosphere, drink and food.
