The Windmill - Upper North Street - Brighton

The Windmill
Is about 100 meters away from the Hampton, so why should you pick this pub? They both offer a good range of drinks, have free internet access (802.11) and serve food. There is definitely a different atmosphere in the Windmill, is is better or worse? Read on. . .
I’ve been in this pub a number of times — The last time was in early September (06) and here are some of my observations, based on my many visits.
The interior feels more ‘cosy’ due to the low ceilings and dark décor - There are a number of tables, one of the long ‘bench’ type, which is great if there is a large group, and a sofa if you’re lucky enough to get it. This also means that you are much closer to your fellow patrons at busy times.

Beer
They serve Kronenbourg here, Unlike the Hampton, although it is a little on the pricey side at £3.10/pint. OK, it’s not as expensive as the Crescent, but its not far off! They also sell Krony Blanc (which is even more expensive) but alas, not the fantastic Kronenbourg Brune! I’ve been converted ever since drinking ‘Brune’ in France, I’m running a campaign to get the brown stuff here in Blighty.
‘Pissy’ lagers are also sold here - but we won’t dwell on that stuff here. The Guinness was pretty good the last time I needed one to sort out my hangover repetitive strain injury (too much pub reviewing).
Food
I’ve sampled the culinary offerings here several times and I’ve been impressed by the quality, quantity and value.
Other facilities
WiFi is provided, as mentioned earlier. The toilets were OK, but the hand dryer was not functioning on my last visit and there was no alternative provided, meaning I had to do the crazy-shaky-hand thing. There is a small “garden” at the front of the pub, which is normally ‘rammed’ on sunny days.
Bloody kids!
There was also a cacophony of noise on my last visit due to parents not overseeing their children. To be honest I think the problem is due to the ‘modern parent’ types, who seem to be abundant in Brighton, this problem is not limited to the Windmill.
There were also some noisy twenty-something ladies, who’d had one too many ‘breezers’ you know the type
The windmill has much to offer - well worth a visit, just make sure you visit at the right time.
