The Lion & Lobster - Sillwood Street, Brighton
This is another little pub tucked out of the way, a hundred yards south of Western Road. Even so, this is a popular boozer, with a good amount of regulars propping-up the bar.
Inside
The pub you’ll find a cosy atmosphere with two real fires and a good selection of beers. This is another establishment with a big screen TV, so not the best place to be for a quiet drink during any sporting event. The regulars are friendly but this pub does get busy during peak times. The décor is interesting with old papers decorating the walls and a good selection of seating.
The prices are reasonable; export beer coming in at £3/pint and a not unpleasant range of wines from £7.95 per bottle.
Food is available, as is a range of veggie options. The burgers are very good! Service has always been prompt and friendly every time I’ve visited.
Another area where I rate pubs is on toilets, the reasoning being; if they can’t keep the toilets clean, what hope for a clean kitchen or cellar – Here they are reasonable, being well stocked and clean. This is also another ‘family friendly’ pub; so you may want to give it a miss if you want to avoid small children during the day.
Verdict
The Lion & Lobster is well worth a visit, but you may want to avoid if you’re not a sports fan.

I love the Lion & Lobster. I used to work there and miss it still. The food is good, the beer well kept and the staff friendly and attentive (without being in your face). The addition of cheap, clean, cosy guest rooms is a good idea. I always give it a visit when in Brighton.
