The Duke of Norfolk - Western Road, Brighton
Situated just up the road from the Robin Hood you’ll find the Duke of Norfolk. A fair sized establishment with a number of good points.
Happy Hour
The first thing that I noticed (call me a parsimonious git) was the rather generous happy hour; from 6pm-10pm Sunday to Thursday. Kronenbourg being priced at £2.05 and Strongbow coming in at £1.80.
So we’re off to good start – The beer is pretty good too – cold and fresh (p’raps it just tastes better being so cheap?) but lets get down to the serious business of reviewing.
Inside you’ll find a nice sized pub with wood floors and a range of seating ranging from tables at one end, with a sofa at the other end. Here we have another pub which gets busy at certain times; although there is a lack of big screen TV, so you wont be surrounded with football fans during match time.
The bar staff are friendly, drinks being served in a timely manner. The patrons of this establishment tend to be varied, with a few ‘regulars’.
The food here is somewhat disappointing; the veggie roast being overcooked and dry. This is a shame. Perhaps we were just unlucky, it may be worth taking another chance to see if this was just a one-off.
The toilets are very clean and well stocked, so no complaints in this area! Free wifi is also provided, ideal if you have a PDA or lap top and need your internet fix. Music is played, with a reasonable mix of alternative and pop. There is also a quiz machine in the corner.
I noticed yesterday that food is back (as it’s been off the menu for a while now) so it may be worth trying out the Sunday roast again some time soon.
