The Queensbury Arms - Queensbury Mews, Brighton
Previously known as the ‘Hole in the wall’ - this is Brighton’s smallest pub.
The Queensbury Arms is well tucked away, so it doesn’t really get ‘passing trade’. The décor is distinctly theatrical, the walls being covered with theatre posters from the past 40 (or so) years - these make the place worth a visit in themselves - Try playing; ‘how many faces can I remember’. In fact Simon Hoggart mentioned the hole in the wall in the Guardian (he was covering the ‘07 Lib Dem conference) pubs like this are becoming a thing of the past, as more ‘McPubs’ take their place.
The pub is friendly enough and the service has been quick during my visits, the beer was also of good quality and served nicely chilled. Best of all the prices are at the low end of the Brighton scale!
There is no garden, so I would imagine this pub is going to be affected by the smoking ban, but I would think the regulars are fiercely loyal to this place anyway.
The Hole in the Wall is well worth a visit, if you like your pubs with extra character. If not you can always brave West Street and go to Wetherspoons instead
