The Railway - Ditchling Rise, Brighton

This pub is right opposite London road station, handy If you happen to arrive in Brighton via that route - Stepping inside reveals a large pub with the traditional saloon/public bar layout, the decor can be considered traditional pub too.
There have been a few changes to this pub since my last visit, namely; a pool table and the garden has been decked. A group of us visited on a Saturday, this may have been a mistake as the pub seemed to be occupied by loads of what I can only describe as erm, how can I put this. . . Townie, chav, ned types - This may have been due to the sport, the pool table or the BBQ .
This was weird because it’s not something I’ve experienced in The Railway before. Service was friendly and prompt. The beer was fine and there were a number of ales, lagers and ciders on offer. Prices being about average for the area.
We elected to sit in the garden away from the football on the TV - The garden has now been totally decked and has a number of tables. We managed to find two tables for our group and sat in the late afternoon sun. There were a couple of dogs running around the garden, but they didn’t bother us. I still prefer the way the garden was, but that’s just my opinion.
Food was not an option when we arrived, but a barbecue was being prepared, presumably for that evening - most of our group are vegetarians, so a barbeque isn’t the most attractive option.
We decided to move on after one drink, feeling a little disappointed. If you are passing it may be well worth a visit, but I’d give it a miss on Saturday afternoon if I were you.
