The Rose Hill Tavern - Rose Hill Terrace, Brighton
The Rose Hill Tavern is located a short distance from Preston Circus and is looks about as traditional as a British pub gets. . .
Inside the traditional theme is maintained; wooden floors, split bar layout and games room at the back make this a pleasant environment in which to have a few drinks. The Rose Hill Tavern is the antithesis of most of the pubs in the surrounding area esp. London Road pubs and bars.
There is no big screen box blaring sky sports - There is a small T.V. which was muted and showing horse racing on my visit. There is no sound system banging out the latest chart shite - There was a discrete hifi playing a selection of music at sensible volume (argh - I can’t believe I just said that! I like loud music, just not when I’m having a quiet pint).
The service was quick, efficient and friendly. Prices being on the lower end of the scale. The drinks were fine although some of my real ale drinking friends have said they’ve sampled better cared for ale. But then they always say that.
I have no complaints as to the quality of the beer.
The locals are very friendly and make you feel welcome, something which is becoming rarer in this time of McPubs. At one point this place even had a swear jar - all proceeds going to charity.
As I mentioned earlier, there is a games room with pool table and darts - The toilets were perfectly acceptable too.
The Rose Hill Tavern is the sort of place that is disappearing at an alarming rate from the British way of life, replaced by soulless corporate chain pubs. If you like a boozer with a personality and regulars that do too, get yourself down there and enjoy!
